Fishtown Row Renovation
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Located in the vibrant Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, this historic townhouse was transformed from a compartmentalized, inward-looking maze of rooms to a light-filled home that embraces the outdoors. Our complete rehab of the existing structure centered on the creation of a large kitchen that functions as the hub of the home, and included two side-yard bay additions, each providing floor area to accommodate integral sitting and dining areas. A folding window wall at the rear elevation floods the space with light and provides a physical and visual connection to a newly designed rear garden, while a rich palette of color and natural materials adds warmth and visual drama. On the exterior, new shou-sugi ban siding conceals the incohesive patchwork of finishes that were the result of multiple renovations and additions over time.
