Upper Bank Addition and Renovations
Media, Pennsylvania
An historic family home located on the bank of Ridley Creek in Media, Pennsylvania was lovingly restored and updated with a two-story addition containing kitchen, dining and family rooms, as well as a greenhouse and a three car garage. The 2500 square foot addition doubled the total square footage of the home, so careful planning was required to ensure that the larger contemporary spaces not overwhelm the historic core. The new planning also expanded an existing outdoor terrace, creating new opportunities from which to enjoy the formal face of the original structure and the adjacent gardens.
Extensive renovations were undertaken throughout the original house, with existing kitchen and dining spaces becoming a new first floor master suite. Lower level service spaces in the addition connect to living spaces above by both stair and elevator, making the home accessible for owners who hope to age in place. On the exterior, local Pennsylvania fieldstone, cedar shake roofing, white-washed wood siding, copper gutters and trims, and a window wall comprised of divided lite glass panels seamlessly tie the addition to the historic structure.
